Carnatic

carnaticIn 1879 the Carnatic hit the reef and sank after being dragged off course by a strong current. Lying parallel to the reef she is found resting on her port side with the bow facing east. The fore and aft areas of the ship remain largely intact with the most damaged area linking the two. The damaged area shows where and how the ship was broken and is where the engine room was located.

The cargo of the Carnatic was mostly cotton, mail for British troops, wine and soda bottles. Sadly pillaging of the site has resulted in the bulk of the cargo being removed but the wreckage itself remains an impressive dive.
At 27 metres the dive is a relatively gentle wreck dive with the only challenges being the relatively rough surrounding sea.
